The Community Rotary Raffle of Milford sponsored by the Devon Rotary and Milford Rotary Clubs completed their $10,000 cash prize raffle for “Trees 4 Charles” to benefit The Charles Island Reforestation project. The proceeds of the raffle will be used to purchase trees for the fall planting on the island.
The Community Rotary Raffle was a HUGE SUCCESS and sold all 6000 tickets, raising $45,000 with the help of concerned citizens and the strong leadership of Chairman, Vincent Lambiase who worked tirelessly with both Rotary Clubs to promote sales at every Milford Summer event. This was an amazing opportunity to support our community and follow our Rotary motto of; SERVICE ABOVE SELF.
The Charles Island Reforestation LLC is a non-profit working with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) to reforest the island. Years of storms, deer, invasive plant species and a fungus which attacked the old trees have deteriorated the island. Only trees that are resistant to the type of fungus present on the island can be planted. Teams of volunteers have been working with DEEP workers to bring the island tree canopy back. This canopy is necessary for not just the bird habitat but also to prevent the erosion of the island.
